MDT 1 – Software Features and Components

I/O Modules

I/O modules are the main interface between PPCs and conventional non-smart sensors and actuators. These modules are fully compatible with IEC61131-2 recommendations. They are fully isolated and have self-diagnostic and status report functionality. A comprehensive set of analog and digital input and output modules are available in the MDT. The I/O modules can be used in redundant configuration, eliminating single point of failures in the I/O subsystem of the ppc.

HART capability

Along with the state of the art FOUNDATION Fieldbus connectivity, MDT has developed solutions that provide the connections between the MDT control system, HART field instruments, and the asset management system. The HART enabled I/O of MDT PPC support HART-6 universal and common practice commands

MAPIDE

MAPIDE (MDT Integrated Development Environment) is used for Configuration of the MDT structure and programming the PPCs. This powerful application provides all the tools and facilities that one needs to implement complex control strategies within the MDT platform. A hierarchy of HSE devices (Programmable Process Controllers and Linking Devices) and H1, Modbus and HART devices can be fully defined and configured in the MAPIDE. The programming task can be performed in a Function Block oriented environment. FOUNDATION Fieldbus control strategies can be composed of standard Function Blocks (FB), MDT’s own prewritten FBs or user written Flexible Function Blocks. The engineer can configure and organize the control network and elements, edit, download and debug control strategies and monitor the digital assets all in the same environment.

MAPVIEW

Visualization of the process under control is performed in MDT using a powerful HMI/SCADA application named MAPVIEW. This application which has been developed from the ground-up using Microsoft .NET technology runs on Windows XP and 7 operating systems provides advanced graphics and animation capabilities for creating optimum interactive experience for the operators.

MAPDS (MDT Data Server)

At the heart of the MDT supervisory platform is a component designed based on the principles of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) called the MAPDS (MDT Data Server). This server gathers plant information in the form of data, alerts, historical data, database records, xml files etc, from various sources, combines them into a well-defined set of unified object-based structures, makes it possible to process information on the fly through powerful .NET scripting and serves this information to its diverse set of clients This server gathers plant information in the form of data, alerts, historical data, database records, xml files etc., from various sources, combines them into a well-defined set of unified object-based structures, makes it possible to process information on the fly through powerful .NET scripting and serves this information to its diverse set of clients.

MAPEMS

MDT Engineering Management Server (MAPEMS) is a server which provides services for maintaining the design source of the project and delivers a multi-engineering environment.

MDT Archive Server

MDT package backs up data and event log files of the MAPDS and removes the unwanted log files from the server. To configure how and when MAPAS performs these tasks you need to set its properties from the Deployment explorer and it can be designed in Mapview+.
